When a Song Opens the Door Between Worlds
In the years after World War II, German craftsman Jorgen Müller and his brother create a beautiful music box bearing their names. Its melody carries more than memory: it reaches into a magical realm of white castles, ancient bells, weaponry wizards, and a darkness that refuses to remain defeated.
Within that realm, thirteen-year-old Johann is an undersized blacksmith’s apprentice with oversized dreams. When the kingdom’s ailing queen leaves a dangerous power vacuum, Johann and his fearless friend Brigitte are drawn into a struggle against the Many-Named One—a fallen defender who returns from death in ever-changing forms.
As the mystery unfolds, the lives of people in postwar Europe and the fate of the enchanted kingdom move toward the same haunting question: how can two worlds separated by history and magic possibly be connected?

A Fantasy World Unlike the Usual Kingdom
“The Canticle Kingdom is a different type of fantasy world than what we normally see. It weaves post World War II Europe and America with a fantastic magical land. The mystery that propelled me through the book was trying to figure out how these two very different worlds would combine.”

Meet the Characters
Meet the people of the Canticle Kingdom and the historical world beyond it. Open a profile for a spoiler-light introduction.
Johann — The Unlikely Hero

Thirteen-year-old Johann is a slight blacksmith’s apprentice who lives beneath the shadow of a mysterious white castle. His curiosity and courage are stronger than forged steel—and may be exactly what two worlds need.
Siegfried — The Wizard of Weaponry

An ancient knight in rusted armor, Siegfried has lost an arm but not his mastery of weaponry magic. Stern, resilient, and deeply experienced, he connects old legends to a new generation of heroes.
Brigitte — The Fearless Friend

Raised near a forest steeped in curses and magical stories, Brigitte is Johann’s closest companion in adventure. Resourceful and brave, she refuses to let her father’s protectiveness define the limits of her world.
Bruno — The Boy Drawn to Darkness

Brash, wounded, and hungry for respect, Bruno turns toward dangerous magic offered by a mysterious teacher. Beneath his aggression lies a powerful desire to belong.
Jorgen Müller — The Master Craftsman

A gifted Frankfurt woodworker, Jorgen creates intricate pieces with his brother, Karsten. Their most mysterious achievement is a music box marked “J und K Müller”—an object that connects far more than melody.
Rufus — The Loyal Chamberlain

Years of service and worry have worn Rufus thin, but not weakened his devotion. He remains steadfast beside Queen Ellis as the kingdom’s stability begins to fracture.
Queen Ellis — The Ailing Sovereign

Though illness has left her physically frail, Queen Ellis retains a quiet nobility and enduring hope. Her condition creates a dangerous opening for those who would seize the kingdom.
The Many-Named One — The Returning Darkness

Once a defender of the realm, this dark wizard returns from apparent death under new names and new forms. His shifting identity makes him an enemy the kingdom can never be certain it has defeated.
