Witter
The Young Explorer of Burgenring
Spoiler level: Through The Frozen Globe
Quick Reference
Who Is Witter?
Witter is one of Burgenring’s most restless young minds. While adults debate tradition, priestly authority, and survival, he measures flight distances, keeps charts, maps tunnels, and treats the mountain’s invisible boundary as a problem that can be investigated rather than simply endured.
His friendship with Bruno begins as a partnership of outsiders. Witter brings curiosity, access, and local knowledge; Bruno brings magic and experience crossing worlds. Their efforts reveal that the Frozen Mountain is not merely isolated by weather or geography. Something has boxed it in.
Science in a Magical World
Witter is especially important because he does not divide the world neatly into magic and science. To him, repeated observations are data whether the cause is natural, magical, or unknown. His careful flight measurements and improvised experiments make him a counterpart to the craftsmen, wizards, and healers elsewhere in the series.
His strange dreams eventually prove dangerous. Outside forces can use the sleeping mind as a pathway, turning Witter’s curiosity into vulnerability and forcing him to confront actions he does not remember choosing.
