Who Is Hart?

Hart is an elderly composer whose life has been consumed by magical music. He believes in the transforming power of composition because he has seen it work—but he also knows better than most that a song can take on a character of its own.

Richard recognizes Hart as someone tied to the disaster that stranded him far from home. Hart admits that he never intended the music to cause such damage. By The Frozen Globe, he is trying to write a final piece capable of releasing the Frozen Mountain from its confinement.

When Art Becomes an Unstable Force

Hart’s compositions require precision because small musical mistakes can have enormous magical effects. His final work can only be played through Will’s great organ and needs vast amounts of stored energy. The Many-Named One understands Hart’s usefulness and previously forced him to compose for the enchanted music box.

Hart therefore embodies the series’ most dangerous version of artistic creation: an artist whose imagination can genuinely change reality but who cannot always control what the finished work will do.
