The Canticle Chronicles runs on more than one clock. Earth events carry exact twentieth-century dates, while the Canticle Kingdom also possesses an internal history of queens, wars, legends, and institutions that cannot always be assigned a reliable Earth year.
Three Ways to Read the Timeline
Earth Date
Exact dates such as 1939, 1940, 1943, 1945, 1947, and 1948 are used when the manuscripts give them directly.
Canticle Era
Older events inside the kingdom are grouped by reigns, institutions, and turning points rather than assigned invented calendar years.
Cross-World Event
Events involving Middlespace, Burgenring, Centerspace, or world-transfer magic are placed in story order when no shared calendar is established.
Major Eras & Turning Points
The Founding Era
Queen Gretchen, the palace, the first settlement, and the musical tradition behind royal succession.
The Age of the Five Knights
Repeated invasions, changing queens, and the long defensive age of the kingdom’s legendary mage-knights.
The Ellis Uprising
A dead queen, a child ruler, corrupt counselors, political repression, and a catastrophic split among the Five Knights.
1939: The Living Kingdom
The Müller brothers complete the box, and Jorgen transforms a crafted miniature into a living world.
1940–1945: The Disappearances
The music box crosses wartime Europe and America while people vanish into the world hidden inside it.
1947–1948: The Frozen Globe Crisis
The sequel’s scattered journeys reveal Burgenring, the Frozen Mountain, Centerspace, and the larger war between worlds.
The Great Transfer
The Canticle Kingdom leaves the music box, becomes permanently rooted in a larger world, and the empty box becomes the Many-Named One’s prison.
