1947: A New Shadow
The Many-Named One returns to activity in postwar Munich, gathering strength and information after the first adventure. His survival transforms what seemed like a kingdom-specific threat into a danger that can move across worlds.
1948: The Search for Jorgen
Johann and Brigitte leave the Canticle Kingdom for Earth and join Karsten’s effort to find Jorgen. The search is complicated by divided postwar Germany and by the theft of the music box, which causes the kingdom’s familiar symptoms of magical decline to return.
The Frozen Mountain Reveals Burgenring
The Frozen Globe storyline exposes a second contained world: a real mountain displaced from Burgenring. Characters such as Witter, Lillis, Nachtigal, Silber, and Strahl broaden the series from one magical kingdom to a network of peoples, worlds, and institutions.
The Roads Break Apart
By the final Middlespace conflict, the separate plotlines converge and scatter again. The Many-Named One is driven toward Centerspace, Richard begins a new state of existence, and Johann is separated from home in Burgenring—directly setting up the events of The Skyward Isle.
