What Is Middlespace?
Middlespace is the strange white realm between ordinary worlds. It behaves less like a destination than a road system: travelers pass through it to reach places that should otherwise be completely separate.
Yet Middlespace is not merely empty transit. Characters meet there, learn there, communicate there, and become stranded there. Its blankness can feel peaceful at first, but prolonged exposure and broken pathways make it increasingly dangerous.
When the Roads Break
By The Frozen Globe, Middlespace becomes a battlefield in its own right. The transit system connecting worlds begins to fail under pressure from the Many-Named One, turning routes that once linked people into forces that can separate them or cast them into unexpected realms.
This makes Middlespace one of the most important pieces of Canticle cosmology: it proves that the worlds are separate, but not isolated.
