Who Is Olear?
Olear is one of the Sansomnian leaders who receives Johann, Bruno, Witter, and Lillis after their arrival in the wider kingdom beyond the Frozen Mountain. Calm and ceremonial, she treats them not as random strangers but as sacred Pilgrims—the first her people have seen in generations.
Through Olear, the travelers learn that their worlds were once connected by regular crossings. That knowledge has largely vanished, but old traditions still remember the pilgrims and the possibility that the Seven Secrets may contain the means to travel between worlds.
A Guide to the Skyward Pilgrimage
Olear shows the travelers the distant floating Sanctuary of the being her people reverently call the Exalted One. She explains that reaching him is itself part of the pilgrimage: petitioners must use resourcefulness to attain the heights rather than simply wait for the Sanctuary to descend.
Her people preserve detailed charts tracking the Sanctuary’s long and complicated path, making Olear an important bridge between ancient religious memory and the practical problem of reaching a moving island in the sky.
