Who Is Brutus?

Brutus is the formidable blacksmith who trains Johann and raises Brigitte. At the forge he is stern, impatient with excuses, and physically intimidating. Yet his harsh exterior conceals intense concern for the young people in his care.

When Brigitte disappears, Brutus abandons everything to search for her and suffers terrible injuries in the attempt. Only then does Johann learn that his uncle’s responsibilities reach much farther than the smithy.

The Family Mission

Brutus belongs to a family line charged with preserving knowledge and completing a task that becomes vital when the kingdom enters a new crisis. He has studied the mechanics of an ancient hidden device while an older generation preserved the lore surrounding it. His secrecy makes sense as protection, but it also leaves Johann and Brigitte unprepared for dangers that are already closing in.
