Who Is Gwen?
Gwen enters the story with a problem more basic than knowing where she is: she does not fully know who she is. She adopts the name “Gwen” because it feels right, but much of her earlier life remains inaccessible to her.
What she has not forgotten is magic. Gwen can create light, hurl dangerous bolts, and leave magical markers that allow her to find a place again. Those abilities make her an invaluable ally when she and Brigitte are trapped in the tunnels beneath the kingdom.
Protector in the Dark
Despite her confusion and physical weakness, Gwen repeatedly places herself between Brigitte and danger. Her instinct to protect survives even when the memories that might explain that instinct do not. That combination of power, vulnerability, and unexplained familiarity makes her one of the central mysteries of Book One.
