One Final McGuffin
A last impossible object may offer the heroes a chance to restore what was lost and bring back the fallen.
Power over Life and Death
Dark forces want the heroes’ last hope for themselves—and intend to turn restoration into destruction.
The Last Footnotes
The series concludes with friendship, sacrifice, fantasy satire, and commentary that remains opinionated to the end.
The Story
The World Has Ended. The Quest Has Not.
The Beandom has been completely transformed, and no one feels particularly fine about it. Yet among the ruins of the world they knew, the surviving heroes discover a glimmer of hope.
Scattering across the altered kingdom, they search for one final McGuffin—an object that may restore the natural order and return the fallen. Their new opponents have no desire to give up the Beandom, while other dark powers seek to transform control over life into a weapon of death.
Every choice now carries the weight of the entire series. The heroes must reunite, confront what the quest has cost them, and decide what they are willing to sacrifice for one final chance at a happily ever after.

- Oh, Well: Pelican confronts Precht inside Petra and retrieves Bell’s body.
- The Midnight Mirror: Bell identifies five mortal-realm gears while every use costs Roderick one memory of her.
- A Ghost’s Story: Roddy Squires returns as a goat-legged ghost aboard the stolen Cinder.
- Gearing Up: The heroes split into teams for Worstashire, Dormor, the palace, Dornfang Forest, and the old EBI headquarters.
- Worstashire and Trolled: Grimblewaith, Wren, and Glocke investigate missing halfling cooks and earn a gear.
- CSI: Beandom: The search widens through abandoned institutions, undead territory, and evidence left by rival hunters.
- Bears, Shadows, and Beanwitches: Hummingbears, Felgarath, Mercurius, Willow, and competing resurrection lists collide.
- The Great Beandom Cooking Show: The gear quests reunite unlikely allies around food, performance, and survival.
- Zomart’s Requiem: Regina’s music, Bell’s memory, and the palace organ reveal the hidden route to another gear.
- Big Bads and Bigger Bads: Felgarath and Mercurius converge with Grimma, Precht, and the reassembled DEM.
- Plan V and NASA: Jackdaw uses Mount Ominous and a future-borrowed rocket to launch the machine beyond the world.
- The Phoenix Saga: Sacrifices, rebirths, and the final struggle reshape the Beandom into a new era.
- The Beginning After the End: Grimblewaith and Wren are crowned, Quest Remembrance Day is founded, allies depart, and King Magnus returns Bell.
The finale’s lasting outcomes: the original Beandom becomes the Refried Beandom, its dead are publicly remembered, Rightbeard and Willow sail onward, and the story replaces “happily ever after” with “happy-ishly ever after.”

FROM QUEST REMEMBRANCE DAY TO DEATH/WISH
The Happy-ish Ending Becomes an Inherited World
Book Seven establishes the Refried Beandom, Quest Remembrance Day, the reign begun by Grimblewaith and Wren, and Jackdaw’s role as keeper of the record. Two centuries later, those choices have become laws, institutions, monuments, family names, and public legends. Death/Wish begins on the anniversary of that memorial and follows Sir Jacques into a kingdom still arguing over who inherited the original heroes’ courage—and who merely inherited their reputation.
FROM THE FIRST REFRIED ERA TO DEATH/WISH
How Book Seven’s Legacy Became a Modern Society
The Twenty-One Gears and the rebuilding of the Refried Beandom lead eventually to Clockwork Chic, magical machinery, and a culture that wears gears without remembering the danger they once represented. Quest Remembrance Day turns the original company into public history, while later institutions regulate and reinterpret that inheritance.
Regina 3RM survives as the Moon Maiden, the Roderick line inherits the Lively Relics, and the Kingdom Charter created in the earlier era becomes central to the Refried succession crisis.
EXPANDED FINAL-QUEST CHARACTER LORE
Three Allies Behind the Final Victory
Pelican
The remorseful teleporter helps search Arach’s manor, gives Jackdaw the compass that powered his greatest journeys, and dies resisting Precht.
Lol the Troll
The former arena guard becomes Rightbeard’s first mate, survives the final conflict, and grows into the full-sized troll he was always meant to be.
The Great Zomart
The court composer emerges from his hidden tower when his secret knowledge of fae-pop becomes the only music capable of stopping the palace creature.

The Abandoned Palace and the End of the Old Capital
The royal palace appears among the final gear sites after the kingdom’s institutions collapse. The quest through its abandoned halls leads toward Mount Ominous, the destruction of the old map, and the creation of the Refried capital built by Grimblewaith and Wren.
