COSMIC POWERS OF BOOK SEVEN
The Netherking / King Magnus
Ruler of the dead · first wizard · origin of magic
The True King of the Netherworld
The Netherking appears as a massive regal figure wrapped in living darkness. He speaks with a low, commanding voice, opens portals between realms, and wields a lance formed from pure shadow. He contests Precht’s usurpation and later destroys Grimma when her schemes threaten his restored rule.
King Magnus
His true identity is King Magnus, the first wizard and the source from which mortal magic ultimately descends. Death could not permanently remove a being of such power; instead, Magnus became the exacting sovereign of the realm beyond life.
The Price—and Payment—of Life
Through Grimma, the Netherking offers to release one soul for each recovered DEM gear. The bargain attracts heroes, villains, and opportunists. After Sir Roderick’s sacrifice helps restore order, Magnus acknowledges an unpaid debt and returns Bellissimo to life with no further condition, while reminding the knight that all mortals eventually enter his realm.
Chronicler’s note: The Netherking is covetous of the dead, but not incapable of fairness. He values order, power, and settled accounts—and loathes owing anyone.
