Willow the Beanwitch and Beanunculi

Willow the Beanwitch assembled from beans inside a glass jar

CHARACTERS AND MAGIC OF BOOK SEVEN

Willow the Beanwitch

Cursed witch · beanunculus · antihero partner

A Coven Leader in a Jar

Willow was once a respected coven leader and first in her class at Hexen Tech. By Book Seven, she is a beanunculus: a tiny woman assembled from individual beans and confined inside a glass jar. Strong emotion can make her body collapse into loose pieces, forcing her to pull herself together literally as well as figuratively.

Dark Green Magic

Willow’s witchcraft remains formidable despite the curse. She uses green-tinged magic, enchants others, and carries memories of a catastrophe so painful that discussing it risks awakening destructive power. Her sharp tongue and pride conceal both deep injury and fierce loyalty.

Rightbeard’s Partner

Captain Rightbeard and Willow recognize the losses and ambitions in one another. Their bickering grows into affection, and Willow is eventually freed from the jar. After Grimblewaith and Wren’s coronation, she leaves aboard The Cinder with Rightbeard to seek a new crew and adventures beyond the Grey Mountains.

Chronicler’s note: A beanunculus is not merely a tiny witch. It is a constructed body whose individual beans must remain magically organized—a difficult condition for someone with Willow’s temper.

LAUNCH TIME CONNECTION

The Bean Witch in the Age of Discovery

Launch Time calls its surviving Bean Witch Wanda. The manuscript does not yet state how that name relates to Willow, so the Encyclopedia leaves the connection open rather than presenting an assumption as settled history.

The later Bean Witch guards a portal into the Sunken Lands, helps the travelers recover Rightbeard, and remains with him to begin restoring the buried magical realm.
