LORE OF RAHIM

The Six Aspects of Rahim

Six fragments of one greater mind stand behind the Realm’s oldest magic—and their struggle over division, reunion, and relationship shapes the entire cycle.

A Divided Being

Ancient writings identify Rahim as a being whose mind and power were divided among six Aspects. Each preserves only part of his memory and nature. Together they reveal a history far more complicated than the official traditions of the Clans suggest.

The Earth Aspects — Aspects of Light

Ancient liturgical texts preserve older names for these powers as the Eyes, Feet, and Hands of Rahim. Together, Sight, Swiftness, and Strength form the Threefold Path. Over time, institutions associated with the three primary gifts become the great Clans.

The Ether Aspects — Aspects of Dark

The Ether Aspects expand the apparent threefold system into a six-part spectrum. Their relationship to Potations, Ethermen, and the hidden second half of the Realm’s cosmology becomes increasingly important in The Thirst and The Longing.

Vessels & Manifesting

A mortal who bears an Aspect becomes its vessel. Vessels gain access not only to extraordinary power and fragments of the Aspect’s knowledge, but also to Manifesting: a visible revelation of Rahim’s glory through colored divine light and altered presence.

Light Vessel & Dark Vessel

When three related Aspects inhabit one person, they create the configurations known as the Light vessel and Dark vessel. These forms are tremendously powerful but remain incomplete. Placing three fragments together does not restore Rahim any more than placing the Light and Dark vessels side by side automatically creates unity.

The Six Moons & the Divine Keep

The sixfold spectrum appears in the sky as well as in the Aspects. The Six Moons of Rahim reveal a larger cosmology than Earthmen can ordinarily perceive. The lunar Divine Keep and its Soul Cleavers become the setting for attempts to bind or separate divine fragments.

Division, Recombination & Completeness

For much of the cycle, the central disagreement appears to be whether Rahim should remain divided or be recombined. The darker Aspects seek reunion, while the lighter Aspects fear that forced concentration of power will repeat earlier disasters.

Major Book Three spoilers: the final revelations complicate both positions. True completeness is not achieved merely by collecting all six fragments into one body. Semprel reveals that relationship itself is part of Rahim’s wholeness, and the Favored demonstrate a form of communion in which people can share divine power without being reduced to containers for fragments.

The cycle therefore moves from division versus recombination toward a deeper question: can beings become whole without erasing difference, agency, or relationship?
