CHARACTERS OF THE PENULTIMATE DAWN
Jamith
Scholar · Historian · Friend

Introduction
Jamith is Azil Harkness’s oldest and dearest friend, a kindly scholar whose long residence at the Twilight Library makes him one of the Realm’s most important historians. His journal entries open windows onto lost liturgies, forgotten Epochs, the original purpose of the Clans, and the increasingly unsettling truth about Rahim.
The Twilight Library
Jamith’s great strength is patient reconstruction. Where the courts inherit traditions, he asks where those traditions came from. His work with surviving texts helps identify the ancient Aspects, the two versions of The Mind of Rahim, and the gap between what the Clans teach and what their own oldest records suggest.
Friendship with Azil
Azil and Jamith share intellectual curiosity, affection, and a habit of turning dangerous discoveries into conversations that sound almost civilized. That friendship gives later events much of their emotional force: the scholar Azil trusts most becomes inseparable from the very mystery they had been studying together.

Later-Cycle Note
In The Thirst, Jamith becomes the vessel of the Purple Aspect, inheriting a combination of strength and sight. The transformation magnifies power while warping personality and purpose. The once-jovial historian becomes capable of probing fear, creating deception, exerting crushing force, and remaking Mals into stronger servants known as Revs.
