COSMOLOGY OF THE PENULTIMATE DAWN

The Six Moons of Rahim

Six Aspects · Two Spectra · Lunar Power · Paths of Reunion

More Than Three

The people of the surface world ordinarily speak of three moons, colored according to the familiar primary spectrum. Reshel’s Orange Aspect reveals the larger truth: the heavens reflect the complete six-part structure of Rahim, even though Earthmen do not naturally perceive all of it.

Light and Ether

The three familiar moons correspond to the powers associated with Scarlet, Golden, and Azure. The other half of the spectrum—Purple, Emerald, and Orange—belongs to the Ether side of the divided system. Some of these moons can be perceived only from the appropriate spiritual or racial perspective.

Magic Written in the Sky

The waxing, waning, and relative positions of the moons affect magic in the Realm. Ancient charts record moments when their paths draw unusually close, and a rare alignment of the visible moons becomes an urgent clue in The Thirst.

Moons and Aspects

The moons are not merely symbols. The Purple Aspect knows that their paths and structures can be manipulated in ways that influence the Aspects themselves. Moving the moons toward one another can become a means of forcing divided powers to combine, turning astronomy into one of the trilogy’s most dangerous forms of magic.
