A Punishment That Became a Calling
Xandir once belonged to the Watchers assigned to observe humanity. He helped reveal heavenly knowledge to mortals, joined the Watchers’ rebellion, and became entangled in the forbidden relationships that produced the Giants. His sentence is not simple exile: he must remain Earthside as a Destroying Angel, carrying out acts of judgment until the End.
Justice in One Hand, Mercy in the Other
Xandir carries two swords whose names summarize his entire moral problem. Dark Judge represents judgment; Bright Advocate represents mercy. His assignments repeatedly force him to choose between punishment and preservation, often when he would rather reduce the situation to a clean fight.
Jarom and Eden
Jarom’s arrival gives Xandir an apprentice he never wanted and a conscience he cannot easily ignore. Eden Fortuna brings a different challenge. When Xandir becomes responsible for protecting her, his old failures with mortals and his longing for a lost love begin to collide with the approaching end of the age.
Deep Canon · Major Spoilers
At the end of The Last Archangel, Xandir’s forgotten identity is restored: he is Archangel Uriel. His name “Xandir” belongs to the long period of punishment and exile. With the End beginning, his Destroying Angel sentence concludes and he is sent into mortality, restoring the council of seven Archangels before their mortal missions.
