Demon Blight
When Mortal Defenses Collapse
- Cause shown: demonic taint transmitted by Adversary bites
- Effect: lowers a mortal’s natural resistance to possession
- Signs: rage, physical distress, crimson-tinged eyes, and other abnormal changes
- Danger: turns an afflicted mortal into an easy target for a nearby demon
A Door Left Open
Xandir describes demon blight as a condition that effectively opens the doors of a human body to possession. The blight itself is not the possessing demon; it weakens the defenses that normally make entry difficult.
The Adversary Plague
During the final prequel crisis, fiery serpents spread the condition through their bites. Victims rapidly become unstable and dangerous, creating a population vulnerable to a second supernatural threat after the initial wound.
Why the Distinction Matters
Demon blight explains why infection, possession, and personal agency are separate stages in the series. A person can be blighted without yet being fully possessed, creating a narrow window in which intervention may still matter.
