Demonic Possession

Hosts, Resistance & Agency

  • Host: a mortal body inhabited by a separate demon
  • Resistance: strong-willed hosts can delay or oppose control
  • Entry: easier when natural defenses have been weakened
  • Separation: demon and host remain distinct beings

Control Can Take Time

Possession is not shown as an instant switch in every case. Sparkslinger says that Daren’s strong will made the process difficult and that gaining meaningful control took months.

The Host Is Still There

The mortal does not simply become the demon. Sparkslinger can rise visibly out of Daren’s body as a separate spectral figure and later reenter him. Judy also resists Ashbreather from within, showing that control can remain contested.

Agency Becomes Complicated

Because host and possessor can struggle over the same body, the series deliberately complicates guilt and responsibility. A possessed character may be coerced, partially aware, resistant, or temporarily able to reclaim control.
