How the Many-Named One Builds Power

Power Through Accumulation
The Many-Named One’s most frightening growth does not come from mastering one spell. He gathers the evil of others and adds it to himself. By the end of The Frozen Globe, companions recognize that the spirits inside his composite form are a major source of his strength.
Many Villains in One Body
His bodies can contain multiple faces, forms, and voices. He eventually describes himself not as one villain but as villains, and later assumes older identities from the kingdom’s history. “Many-Named” is therefore more than a title: identity itself becomes something he can collect, imitate, and weaponize.
The Spirits Want Out
When Richard’s staff affects him, the Many-Named One appears to come apart into many forms pulling away from one another. The magic reveals an important limitation: the collection is powerful, but it is not naturally unified. His victims can become a weakness when the force binding them together is disrupted.
The Vilest Part
The pattern continues into Book Three. The Many-Named One can preserve and imitate the darkest remnants of a person, including a hateful fragment of Jorgen’s former self. Evil is treated as material to be harvested, retained, and turned back against the people who remember the original person.
