Bruno’s Forbidden Advantage
Bruno secretly practices a form of magic outside Siegfried’s ordinary instruction. During his duel with the old knight, he surrounds Siegfried in dark energy strong enough to bring him down and boasts that the power will make others bow before him.
The Price Appears on the Body
The spell does not leave Bruno untouched. As he renews the attack, color drains from his face. Elsewhere his use of dark power is accompanied by physical weakness, pallor, and strain. The series repeatedly links magical power to endurance, but forbidden power makes that bargain visibly dangerous.
Power as Seduction
Dark magic appeals to Bruno because it seems to offer a shortcut past training, restraint, and respect. Its danger is therefore not only what the spell can do to an enemy, but what the promise of power encourages the user to become.
Not All Darkness Is the Same
The archive uses “dark magic” for corruptive spellcraft associated directly with the Many-Named One and his followers. It should not be treated as a label for every frightening spell, shadowed place, or morally difficult use of ordinary magic.
