The Oxymorons of the Beandom

Four living contradictions, four increasingly peculiar weaknesses, and one clue chain leading to the One Bean.

What Is a Beandom Oxymoron?

In ordinary grammar, an oxymoron combines terms that appear to contradict each other. In the Beandom, certain contradictions have become creatures, titles, or identities with enough physical presence to throw armored knights into trees.

Grossina initially sends Bellissimo to overcome three fearsome creatures. Each defeated opponent reveals the next location and the special form of language needed to prevail. The third clue adds a final arena challenge, producing a practical chain of four Oxymorons.

The challenges reward observation, interpretation, and cooperation more than direct force. This is unfortunate for Sir Roderick, whose preferred strategy begins with direct force and attempts interpretation only after landing in a tree.

The Little Giant, a short purple creature with enormous muscles

The Little Giant

Location: A grove of miniature trees in Hornfang Forest

Weakness: Other oxymorons

The Little Giant stands only about as high as Bellissimo’s waist, but its purple body carries muscles of absurd size. It is strong enough to seize Sir Roderick by the feet, whirl him through the air, and throw him into the surrounding trees.

The creature enjoys the music of the Dung Beetles and briefly bonds with Bellissimo over favorite songs. Shared musical taste does not prevent it from throwing her into another tree, although it promises not to throw her quite as hard.

Bellissimo eventually realizes that her sweet-and-sour chips and Sir Roderick’s unpleasantly named scrumptious bean are both edible oxymorons. The contradictory foods overwhelm the creature and compel it to reveal the next destination: Lake Ekal, home of the Jumbo Shrimp.

Clue given: Find Jumbo Shrimp at Lake Ekal and use a palindrome.

P’R’A’W’’Y’N, the Jumbo Shrimp

Location: Lake Ekal

Weakness: A palindrome

P’R’A’W’’Y’N is a shrimp approximately the size of an elephant, with pointed appendages and a booming voice. The creature’s many apostrophes are inherited family punctuation, accumulated across generations.

Renaming Sir Roderick “Sir Bob” does not count as carrying a palindrome into battle. Shouting “Madam, I’m Adam” also proves ineffective when the knight accidentally announces “Madam, I’m Madam.”

ELM solves the challenge by examining the available watercraft and selecting kayaks. The word kayak reads the same forward and backward, and the boats themselves become the necessary palindrome. Confronted with the proper weapon, the Jumbo Shrimp yields.

Clue given: Face the Living Dead in the Improbable Swamp and use irony.

The Living Dead, a towering vegan zombie crying for grains

The Living Dead

Location: Slad Manor in the Improbable Swamp

Weakness: Irony

The Living Dead is a singular zombie whose former vegan principles conflict with its undead instincts. Instead of simply demanding brains, it emerges from the soil bellowing “Grains!”

Its body swells to roughly twice the height of an approaching wizard. It survives magic, blades, iron guardians, cages, holy water, and other standard methods. Feeding it grain calms it only temporarily.

The solution is Count Slad the Improver, a vampire who is vegetarian, loves garlic, and is poor with numbers despite being a count. After a garlic-heavy meal, Slad transforms into a giant black rabbit and breathes the contradiction directly onto the zombie. The Living Dead sinks underground, leaving behind a tombstone with the final clue.

Clue given: Challenge the Moronic Ox at Circus Absurdus and tell the jokes of the fathers.

The Moronic Ox

Location: Circus Absurdus at the foot of Mount Ominous

Weakness: The jokes of the fathers

The Moronic Ox is an enormous arena opponent that has not emerged from its lair in years. Its return attracts elves, dwarves, goblins, orcs, humans, Whatsits, merchants, and spectators expecting a bloodbath.

Circus Absurdus requires contestants to follow a barbarian dress code: shirts and shoes are prohibited. Sir Roderick enters alone wearing the approved equipment and carries a scroll of jokes contributed by the party.

The narrative follows Bellissimo and ELM to the neighboring goblin pub rather than depicting the contest itself. By the time the story returns to the main quest, Bellissimo possesses the One Bean. The surviving account therefore establishes the opponent, arena, weapon, and successful result without recording the exact sequence of the battle.

Why the Oxymorons Matter

The Oxymorons transform language into geography and combat. Words are not merely descriptions of the creatures; they are the rules governing how those creatures can be overcome.

The quest also changes the party. Bellissimo takes command, Sir Roderick begins questioning his instinct to charge first, ELM discovers that schemes can become useful plans, and Jackdaw learns once again that a prophecy is rarely limited to his first interpretation.

The safest response to a living contradiction is not necessarily a sword. Begin with a dictionary, continue with snacks, and keep a garlic-loving vampire nearby.
