The Seven Archangels

Mortality and the Last Archangel

  • Number: seven Archangels
  • End-era pattern: the Archangels enter mortality
  • Uriel: Xandir’s restored celestial identity
  • Distinctive role: Uriel is the last of the seven to enter mortal life

The Council Returns to Seven

At the end of Xandir’s Destroying Angel service, the High Seraph restores his suppressed identity as Archangel Uriel and announces that the Council of Archangels will once again number seven.

Archangels in Mortal Form

The restoration does not send Uriel back to a purely celestial existence. Instead, he crosses into mortal life. Later books establish that the other Archangels have also entered mortality, making this transition part of the End-era pattern rather than a punishment unique to Xandir.

Why He Is the Last Archangel

The title gains a second meaning here: Xandir is not merely an angel serving near the End. As Uriel, he is the final member of the seven to enter the mortal stage of their work.
