Celestial Lore · Mark & Protection

The Mark of Cain

Protection and Retribution

  • Source: Cain / Master Mahan
  • Bearer shown: Clara
  • Effect: anyone who harms the bearer receives seven times the harm inflicted
  • Reach: protection applies even against demons
  • Visible form: a branded supernatural mark

Protection Through Retaliation

Cain brands Clara with the Mark and describes it as a gift of protection. The protection does not prevent every attack from being attempted; instead, it makes harming the bearer catastrophically expensive for the attacker.

Sevenfold Harm

The rule is explicit: anyone who harms the bearer receives seven times that harm in return. Cain emphasizes that even demons fear the consequence.

Protection Can Also Become a Claim

For Clara, the Mark is not emotionally neutral. She fears that being branded creates an ongoing connection to Cain and may allow him to use her presence for his own purposes. The same sign that grants safety can therefore feel like ownership.
