The Friend Who Stays
Judy provides something rare in a story dominated by beings who have watched centuries pass: ordinary human loyalty. When Eden’s life begins collapsing under supernatural pressure, Judy does not wait for a complete explanation. She keeps watch, asks questions, drives into danger, and repeatedly puts herself between Eden and whatever threatens her.
Scholarship Meets the Impossible
Judy’s education does not give her a ready-made answer for angels, demons, prophetic pregnancies, or unquenchable supernatural fire. What it does give her is a habit of observation. She notices contradictions—such as evidence surrounding Eden’s pregnancy—and keeps testing what she sees instead of surrendering her judgment.
Courage with a Sense of Humor
Even after supernatural changes affect her own body, Judy remains recognizably herself: protective, indignant, funny, and stubbornly focused on Eden’s survival. Her humor gives the mortal side of the story a voice that can stand beside Xandir’s sarcasm without becoming celestial.

Judy dies while helping protect Eden and the newborn children, but her story continues immediately after death. Her spirit is met by her own guardian, Jertel. The epilogue later reveals that Judy is permitted to return as Eden’s guardian angel, making good on the promise she once treated almost as a joke.
