Jubal

The Musician and Manipulator

Quick Reference

  • Type: Ancient Giant-associated being; son of Master Mahan
  • Brother: Tubal
  • Primary tool: enchanted harps
  • Special ability: extraordinary music-based effects and the ability to sense life
  • Connection to Jarom: captor, guide, and manipulator

Music as Supernatural Force

Jubal’s music does far more than entertain. Different harps and melodies can produce radically different effects: stopping a battle by putting combatants to sleep, repairing damage, inflicting intense pain, or weakening resistance. His skill makes him dangerous precisely because he does not need to meet force with greater force.

Jarom’s Captor

Jubal oversees Jarom during the cherub’s journey along the Magma Flow. He is courteous enough to appear safer than his brother Tubal, but his charm is strategic. Jarom can feel a subtle hypnotic quality even in Jubal’s gaze, and Jubal carefully controls how much information his captive receives.

The Gentle Approach

Where Tubal prefers overwhelming weapons, Jubal favors leverage, temptation, and carefully selected pressure. He understands that Serche’s gates cannot simply be battered down and that Xandir’s desperation is more useful than brute strength. This makes him one of the conspiracy’s most effective planners.

Deep Canon · Spoilers

Master Mahan identifies Jubal as his son and says Jubal can sense life wherever it is. That ability helps expose hidden pregnancies and track people the conspirators need. Near the climax, Jubal uses music directly against Xandir to prevent him from simply escaping and reporting everything to Heaven.
