Guardians Rather Than Owners
The Ravens do not simply possess power for themselves. Each serves as a guardian and distributor of one Secret, choosing a mortal who will carry access to that power until death creates an opening for a successor.
A System Against Tyranny
Their institutional purpose is political as well as magical. By dividing seven extraordinary powers among separate guardians and mortal keepers, the system makes it harder for any one ruler to dominate all of Burgenring.
The Call in Time of Need
A chosen keeper may be given the Raven’s name and instructed to call upon it in a time of need. When Bruno summons Xentil, the apparently ordinary bird reveals a vastly larger form and immediately offers practical aid.
Institution and Relationship
The Secret Bearers are unusual because their order is based on individual bonds. Each Raven guards part of a larger system, yet each mortal receives power through a personal encounter, a remembered name, and an invitation to call.
