The Highest Priesthood

Cahni identifies the Council of Tones as the Dolorii’s highest priesthood. Its seven members oversee both temporal and spiritual affairs, making the Council not merely a religious body but a governing authority.

Seven Priests, Seven Bells

The number seven is built into the institution. Seven priests sit on the Council, and their robes bear the same number of prominent bell symbols. The structure echoes the seven great bells associated with Telegro’s Sanctuary and reinforces the Dolorii belief that sacred sound organizes authority.

When Theology Becomes Policy

Under Father Roleni, the Council interprets sayings attributed to the Exalted One as justification for sacrificing the sacred Pilgrims. Their authority allows a theological interpretation to become immediate law, imprisonment, and planned execution.

The Doom Tone

Roleni’s use of the Doom Tone demonstrates how spiritual office, magical force, and social belief reinforce one another. The note physically hurls Bruno backward, while the surrounding Dolorii interpret it as a judgment upon his soul.
