I love things that make me expand my way of thinking. This book was one of those things. I have read the Book of Mormon a number of times, and I’m constantly amazed at the different things I find there. “Women of the Book of Mormon” opened me up to aspects of the Book of Mormon that I had not yet considered, especially cultural considerations that make the text more meaningful.Once such example was the fact in Jewish society about the importance of sons and what they meant to a woman in that society. It was seen as a sort of status symbol, as childbearing was considered a woman’s primary function in the society. Sons were prized higher in that society because they stayed in the family instead of becoming part of someone else’s . In that context, it makes Sariah’s lament about losing all four of her sons at once to Laban’s clutches much more poignant. The book is a very quick read and left me wanting to look further into the characters mentioned and to pay closer attention to them next time I read through. Each chapter not only goes into the background of the characters, but ties it in nicely with personal applications for the reader’s life. Each chapter is nicely accented with a full-color painting, many of which I was not yet familiar with, but all very tastefully done. The book releases in April and I highly recommend you pick it up. Two signings now under my belt and again it was a blast! I sold a good number of books and talked to some great people, especially some fun families. Luckily, I was right by a shelf with a bunch of fantasy books on it, and was easily able to strike up a conversation with people who were browsing that shelf. The biggest thing I’ve learned from my first two signings, is that its a good idea to get up out of the chair and just try to talk to people. (Thank goodness for my experience as a missionary. Now when I’m talking to strangers, at least they speak my native language!)I even met a boy in high school who was working on his own novel. I thought that was great, because that is when I started with my first. (Thought it hasn’t seen the light of day yet…)Thanks to those who came and happy reading!

I found a great attention-grabbing author widget at http://www.freado.com. You upload your cover art and an excerpt from your book and then can add things like links to buy your book, media mentions, and even videos. It then gives you code to embed it in your email signature, blog, Facebook and more. It even keeps stats of how many people have read it. Give it a try!

A new trailer for my fantasy novel, “The Canticle Kingdom”. The places shown are all places visited in the book, and the music box music at the beginning is a piece of my own composition. Enjoy!

My first book signing at the BYU Bookstore turned out great! I sold most of the books they had in stock and a bunch of friends came by to see me. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and hope you enjoy it! My next one is coming up at the Provo Towne Center Mall on Feb 20th, from 1 – 4pm. Hope you can stop by!
