ASPECTS & MORTAL HOSTS
Vessels of Rahim
Mortals who bear an Aspect of Rahim become partners in a relationship of power, memory, influence, and choice.
What Is a Vessel?
A vessel is a mortal who carries one or more of Rahim’s Aspects. The Aspect provides access to extraordinary power and fragments of knowledge or memory, but it does not simply erase the person beneath it. Vesselhood is a relationship between distinct wills whose cooperation can range from harmonious to dangerously unstable.
Selection & Worthiness
The cycle repeatedly links vesselhood with judgment of character rather than bloodline alone. Aspects search hearts, accept or reject possible hosts, and sometimes leave one vessel for another. Later restoration formalizes the principle further: Rahim chooses future servants from those who exemplify the Threefold Path.
Shared Power & Memory
A vessel can draw on the Aspect’s defining gift—Sight, Strength, Swiftness, or a combination—and may receive impressions, memories, warnings, or instruction from the being within. Yet an Aspect’s knowledge is not complete. Each preserves only part of Rahim’s divided experience.
Manifesting
Vessels can perform Manifesting, allowing the Aspect’s glory to show visibly through the mortal body. Color, light, altered features, and a heightened resemblance to Rahim can mark the moment.
Leaving a Vessel
An Aspect may depart, be separated through ancient rites, or return to Rahim. The effects are not always fully reversible. Evelet, for example, retains a light awakened within her even after Scarlet returns to Azil; other former vessels likewise carry permanent marks of the relationship.
Exceptional Cases
The trilogy contains several unusual vessel states: the combined Light and Dark Vessels, Sarhah’s temporary bond with Semprel, and Evelet’s restoration from ancient remains into a living vessel. These exceptions reinforce that vesselhood is not merely a magical job title but part of the Realm’s deeper theology of identity, communion, and restoration.
