MAGE CREATURES OF PANTONALLIA

Mage Mites

Tiny beings whose individual minds merge into collective consciousness—and whose cooperation can magnify human magic.

A Living Collective

Mage Mites are minute magical creatures associated especially with Pantonallia and the Orange Keep. Individually they possess tiny consciousnesses; in great numbers those minds combine into a collective awareness that a more powerful intelligence can sometimes enter or influence.

Magic Through Partnership

The Dark Vessel’s forces harvest Mage Mites for orange-glass armor, vehicles, and other devices. A mage can link with the creatures in the glass and expand a Reserve beyond the body’s ordinary limits, allowing unusually large and complex spells.

Communication

Azil’s altered Sight and the Helm of Lost Worlds let him perceive the Mites more directly than most people can. What begins as indistinct impressions eventually becomes communication. Their behavior shows that they are not merely a magical resource: they have preferences, fear, anger, and the capacity to choose whom they will aid.

Turning on Sarchat

During Azil’s confrontation with Sarchat, he appeals to the creatures inside the mage’s armor rather than attacking only their human master. When the Mites finally withdraw their cooperation, the glass system fails catastrophically. The moment demonstrates one of the cycle’s recurring principles: power gained through domination is less secure than power freely given.
