Whale of a Tale
Jonah, Nineveh & the Secret of Serche
- Historical frame: Jonah and Nineveh
- Xandir’s task: help drive Jonah toward his mission and await Nineveh’s judgment
- Major lore thread: Serche
- Character lesson: destruction can be averted when mortals change
A City That Might Not Be Destroyed
Xandir arrives expecting another city-scale judgment, only to watch Jonah’s preaching begin to change Nineveh. The possibility that destruction might be canceled challenges the fatalism Xandir has built during centuries of compulsory service.
Serche Enters the Story
A rogue source tempts Xandir with information about Serche, an ancient city whose history will become essential much later. The prequel therefore plants the doomed city as a long-running mystery before the main novel finally sends Xandir inside it.
Mercy as a Historical Possibility
Nineveh matters to Xandir because it proves that a sentence and its outcome are not always identical. Repentance, change, and divine mercy can interrupt the path toward destruction.
