Sower and Supplanter
The Monastery and the Seeds of Death
- Setting: a medieval monastery
- New office: the Sower
- Corrupted counterpart: the Supplanter
- Central idea: small planted objects can begin chains of consequence ending in death
A Different Kind of Assignment
Xandir is sent to determine whether a monastery conceals a destructive supernatural influence. Instead of solving the problem with a sword, he becomes involved in commissioning a new Sower—an office governed by a satchel, an amulet, and instructions delivered through supernatural compulsion.
Seeds That Become Consequences
The Sower withdraws ordinary-looking objects and receives instructions about where to place them. Their purpose may not become clear immediately, but each object can begin a chain of events that eventually touches another life.
The Supplanter Mirrors the Office
Xandir eventually realizes that the monastery also contains a corrupted version of the same principle: a Supplanter planting dark seeds whose consequences lead toward death. The age turns causality itself into a supernatural battlefield.
