Sarah begins as a young woman trying to make ends meet while working at a library. She has no idea that a cherub and a Destroying Angel have been assigned to help her meet Phillip Fortuna—or that demonic forces are working just as hard to prevent the relationship.
More Than a Target
The Q-PED assignment initially looks almost comic to Xandir, but Sarah’s danger makes the stakes real. The Sapper’s interference escalates from bad luck and social sabotage to a catastrophic attack that leaves her critically injured and emotionally weakened.
The Relationship That Changes Xandir
Sarah and Phillip’s growing bond forces Xandir to care about an outcome he once would have mocked. By the time Sarah lies unconscious in the hospital, Xandir is no longer merely helping Elsere complete a task; he is determined that both mortals survive and receive the chance to choose their future together.
Deep Canon · Spoilers
Sarah survives. After Elsere sacrifices himself and the Sapper is defeated, Phillip reaches her bedside as she awakens and the bond between them visibly flares back to life. Later, Sarah gives birth to their son while Xandir watches from outside, still wondering what role the Fortuna family’s legacy will play in the future.
