Jarom’s Definition of Home
The Elysian Fields are the place Jarom longs for whenever Earthside service becomes frightening or confusing. His memories focus on sweetness, light, family, and familiar work: harvesting, baking, flying goods in golden chariots, and living among the shining homes of other cherubim.
The Order of Ambrosia
Jarom’s family belongs to the Order of Ambrosia, the heavenly baking guild whose ambrosia-filled manna possesses restorative properties. The Elysian Fields therefore function as both a pastoral heavenly landscape and a working center of celestial production.
A Contrast to Nod
Jarom’s first imprisonment in the Realm of Nod is made more frightening by memory. The dark, dripping tunnels feel especially bleak because he compares them with the warmth, fragrance, sunlight, and open rivers of the Elysian Fields.
