Destroying Angels

Heaven’s Agents of Judgment

  • Known members: Xandir and Semsel
  • Function: execute heavenly judgments and destructive assignments
  • Xandir’s weapons: Dark Judge and Bright Advocate
  • Status note: a service/assignment, not Xandir’s original identity

A Job More Complicated Than the Title

Xandir dislikes the phrase “Destroying Angel” because he considers it an incomplete description. His work can include catastrophe and death, but his paired swords represent both justice and mercy. The assignment repeatedly forces him to decide not only what must be destroyed but what should be spared.

Judgment Across History

Destroying Angels operate across major moments in human history. Xandir and Semsel are assigned to the plagues of Egypt, and their missions can involve cities, armies, individuals, and other large-scale judgments.

Punishment and Probation

For Xandir, the assignment is also a sentence. After the fall of the Watchers, he is condemned to remain Earthside in this role until the End. His ease with destruction becomes the very trait Heaven repeatedly tests by giving him assignments that require compassion.

Deep Canon · Identity Versus Assignment

Xandir eventually learns that “Destroying Angel” was never his deepest identity. His restoration as Archangel Uriel separates the work he was sentenced to perform from the person he was before exile and the person he becomes afterward.
