The Ruler Behind the White Side
Palad is more than a distant symbol of the Paladin family. Later books bring Rich into direct contact with him, revealing an ancient Sovereign whose personality, expectations, and long conflict with Nemes have shaped what generations of knights believe a Paladin should be.

When Rich finally meets Palad, the ruler is visibly aged. The stones that sustain the ancient families have been drained across generations, and Palad admits that his memories are fading with his strength.

Palad and Nemes have fought for so long that neither can clearly remember the original cause. Palad recalls only that it involved their father, the Knight Father.
