A Door Small Enough for a Pocket
Lorelei creates the watch by shrinking an open Middlespace portal and drawing it into a golden pocket watch. The result turns one of the most difficult problems in the series—reaching the road between worlds—into something a traveler can carry.
How the Watch Opens
When Karsten opens the watch, its hands begin to spin faster and faster until they blur. A bright white light forms above the face and expands outward until the stored portal becomes a doorway large enough for travelers to walk through.
Convenience Does Not Remove Risk
The watch solves access, not danger. Middlespace remains psychologically and magically hazardous, and an open doorway does not guarantee a safe journey beyond it. The artifact therefore provides mobility without eliminating the rules of the realm it reaches.
