GHOSTS OF DEATH/WISH

Heebie, Jacques’s Ghost Butler

Assistant · scout · comic confidant · unofficial therapist

A Professional Haunting Presence

Heebie is the buoyant phantom who manages Sir Jacques’s household, carries messages, scouts through walls, monitors suspicious locations, and provides a running commentary on nearly everything. His broad spectral grin displays more teeth than he could have shown while alive.

Before He Was a Ghost

In life, Heebie wore slicked-back black hair, a cape, white face paint, and slightly pointed teeth. The ensemble led many people to mistake him for a vampire. Death made the misunderstanding less important and the theatricality considerably easier.

Comedy with a Loyal Core

He flips, poses, salutes, cackles, pulls faces, and wanders into conversations with irresistible enthusiasm. Beneath the manic performance, however, Heebie is deeply loyal to Jacques and Hubert. His rare solemn moments reveal that the household’s most unserious spirit understands grief better than he admits.

A New Kind of Ghost Watch

Unlike the legendary spirits preserved on J.D.’s Ghost Watch, Heebie is part of Jacques’s daily life. He represents the Refried era’s increasingly ordinary relationship with ghosts: still supernatural, but also employable, companionable, and capable of being sent to check whether someone has stolen a foundational document.

Chronicler’s note: Every immortal wizard needs someone who can pass through locked doors. It helps if that someone also knows when to stop joking—eventually.
