A Journey Meant to Last Days
After the crisis surrounding the Aspects, Azil leaves the Realm on a journey he expects to be brief. From his own perspective, he spends only a matter of days beyond the familiar mountains, exploring another devastated realm and attempting to find his way home.
Fifty Years at Home
Time does not pass the same way for those Azil leaves behind. Sarhah and the people who remain in the Realm experience the passing days, months, and years. Their individual histories differ: Jamith joins the later airship search for Azil, and Azil discovers his frozen body aboard its wreck before learning the full extent of the time that has passed. When Azil finally returns to the Realm, almost precisely fifty years have elapsed there; that interval does not mean that every person he left behind survived to witness his return.
The Calendar Resets
The disappearance becomes so important that later generations call it simply the Flight and reckon time from it. Sarhah’s Days of Flight becomes both personal chronicle and historical record of the world Azil never meant to abandon.
A World Changed Beyond Recognition
The Clans are gone as functioning powers. New factions have risen, ancient cities have returned, old enemies have become rulers, and survivors have built identities around waiting—or refusing to wait—for Rahim’s return. Former vessels age more slowly than ordinary people, allowing Sarhah and others to bridge the enormous gulf between the world Azil knew and the one to which he returns.
