LOST HISTORY OF THE REALM

The Great Purge

The destruction of old religious records leaves later generations arguing over fragments of a history their ancestors deliberately erased.

What Was Lost

The Great Purge destroys much of the Realm’s older religious record. Most copies of The Mind of Rahim disappear, and liturgical texts from the Epoch of Spectrum become rare enough that each surviving discovery can overturn assumptions about Rahim, the Aspects, and the origins of the Clans.

A World Built on Fragments

By the Penultimate Age, competing institutions possess incomplete records and incompatible interpretations. The destruction helps explain why Azurans, Dorians, Scarlattis, and other religious factions can all claim ancient authority while understanding only portions of the same older tradition.

The Role of the Clans

Jamith’s research connects the destruction of religious materials with the Clans and notes the bitter irony that rival powers appear to have cooperated most effectively when destroying knowledge. The surviving record, however, does not provide a complete chronology or a simple account of every motive behind the Purge.

The Ethermen Question

Jamith fears that the destruction may have helped conceal the disappearance or violent suppression of the Ethermen. That suspicion is historically important, but it remains a scholar’s inference rather than a fact the surviving documents prove beyond doubt. The encyclopedia therefore preserves the distinction between evidence and hypothesis.

The Legacy of Destruction

Much of the Penultimate Dawn cycle is an act of recovery from the Great Purge. Characters do not merely hunt for powerful objects; they recover context. Every rediscovered scripture, liturgy, shrine, and testimony makes it harder for the Realm’s institutions to maintain identities built on selective memory.
