Bruno
The Dark Knight Who Breaks Rank
- Role: dark knight and Nemesis
- Traits: physically formidable, blunt, independent, and unexpectedly rule-conscious
- Key contrast: opposes the Paladins without automatically supporting every dark-knight action
- Story function: complicates Rich’s understanding of what a Nemesis is supposed to be
A Dark Knight Who Is Not Jezreel
Bruno initially looks like another reason for Rich to distrust the dark knights. He is imposing, rude, and perfectly willing to fight. Yet his behavior inside the Maze quickly shows that belonging to the Nemesis tradition does not require him to approve of Jezreel’s methods.
The Rules Matter to Him
Bruno explains that dark knights normally expect a Paladin’s fate to be decided by the paired Nemesis rather than by someone else’s sabotage. In his view, the rivalry exists partly to test both sides and make them stronger. That principle gives him reasons to resist allies who cross lines he considers illegitimate.
Deep Canon · Breaking With Jezreel
During the Maze journey, Bruno openly turns against Jezreel when she endangers members of the mixed party. His choices do not make him a Paladin, but they demonstrate one of the series’ central gray areas: opposing sides can still contain individuals with different loyalties, limits, and ideas of honor.
