The Stone Servants
Animated Statues of the Dark Wizard
Quick Reference
- Origin: Existing sculptures stolen from the kingdom and repurposed
- Forms: Animals, hybrid creatures, humanoid figures, and disguised identities
- Controller: The Many-Named One
- Weakness: Sufficient force can shatter or return them to inert stone
- Early warning: Sculptures vanish even from the magically protected chapel
The Missing Statues
Before the heroes understand the full threat, sculptures begin disappearing from protected places. Rufus notes missing figures in the chapel, and the thefts are attributed to a powerfully dark wizard capable of overcoming the site’s defenses.
Stone Given Motion
Johann and Brigitte soon encounter the result: creatures whose bodies appear alive and colorful until damaged, when their surfaces break apart and reveal stone beneath. The Many-Named One can turn art and memorial objects into mobile weapons.
An Army of Borrowed Forms
The servants are not limited to one shape. Johann faces predators and bizarre hybrid animals, while the dark wizard himself can exploit sculpted forms and familiar faces as disguises. The effect makes identity unreliable and turns the kingdom’s own cultural objects against its people.
Breaking the Spell
Physical damage can expose and shatter the stone beneath the magical appearance. Johann’s enchanted sword and emergency “Hilfe” command prove especially effective against large groups, though the effort carries a severe energy cost.
