Frederick
The chamberlain who fought with music.
Frederick serves the queen with patience, composition, and a willingness to use song as carefully as another defender might use a sword.
Chamberlain and Court Composer
Frederick occupies an unusual position at court: he is both a trusted chamberlain and a composer. He manages the queen’s demands, protects valuable music from impulsive destruction, and searches constantly for songs capable of producing real magical effects.
Breaking the Illusion
When enchantment distorts the queen’s judgment, Frederick plays a carefully chosen melody on his recorder. The music strips away the illusion and forces her to see reality clearly again. It is a painful act of loyalty: he knows the truth will hurt her, but refuses to let false happiness control the throne.
The Great Instrument
Frederick later helps reset the Great Instrument with a newly prepared composition. The kingdom-wide device turns music into a strategic weapon, and Frederick becomes one of the people who understands that some battles in the Canticle Kingdom can only be fought in sound.
