CREATURES AND CATASTROPHES OF LAUNCH TIME
The Trebles and the Singing Apocalypse
Fluffy invaders · musical predators · networked alien menagerie
The Cutest End of the World
Trebles are bulbous, brown-and-white extraterrestrial creatures larger than a human head. Their harmless, cuddly appearance conceals a musical attack capable of overwhelming listeners and transforming civilization into a chorus no one volunteered to join.
The Treble Future
By 2026, the creatures have spread across Earth and destroyed ordinary society. Survivors such as Sergio rely on enormous sound-blocking headphones and constant vigilance. The apocalypse resembles neither traditional zombies nor an alien army; it arrives as relentless cuteness connected by song.
A Networked Species
The Trebles appear linked to a mothership or central communication system associated with Tiberius Plinth. His panpipes and amplified blue crystal can summon them, suggesting that their coordination depends on a shared signal rather than independent strategy.
Their Temporal Weakness
When J.D. carries Trebles backward through time, they become inert. The displacement may sever their connection to the mothership because the controlling system does not yet exist in the earlier era. Whether they are dead, stunned, or simply disconnected remains uncertain—but the discovery offers humanity its first meaningful defense.
Chronicler’s note: History contains many warnings about judging by appearances. Very few specifically mention protecting civilization from fluffy opera.
