The Most Outgoing Merriwether

Michelle is one of the daughters of Mother Merry and Giacomo Merriwether and the sister of Edward, Petronella, Theodora, and Kumquat. Unlike several of her quiet or reclusive sisters, Michelle is bold, social, quick to act, and willing to challenge danger with whatever happens to be nearby—including a burning torch, a fallen branch, or her own magically reinforced body.

Sir Roderick and an Awkward History

Michelle and Sir Roderick 3RG share an early romantic connection that remains a source of affection, embarrassment, jealousy, and comic misunderstanding in later adventures. Roderick is still susceptible to her charm, while Michelle is often more interested in the immediate problem than in preserving his heroic dignity.

The Wish That Worked Too Well

When her father falls ill, Michelle seeks kidney beans for one of Jackdaw’s healing potions. At a dangerous wishing well, she instead wishes that her father will become healthy and never grow sick again. The wish turns him into a flawless stone figurine. A second wish meant to reunite the family transforms Michelle and the other Merriwethers into living stone people.

Miss Marble

Michelle responds to the transformation with characteristic energy, choosing the heroic name Miss Marble. Her stone skin makes her nearly indestructible, resistant to ordinary weapons, and largely immune to attacks that depend on pain, smell, or a vulnerable heart. The form also carries emotional costs: she worries that her altered body may make ordinary love, family life, and belonging impossible.

The Rod Squad

Michelle joins the Rod Squad against the Needler. She places herself at the front of the charge, absorbs volleys of glass from the mirror golem, shields Grimblewaith from falling shards, helps guide survivors through the palace, and continues fighting after her surface is chipped and scarred. Her confidence turns an accidental curse into one of the team’s strongest defenses.

Petra, Music, and the Later Beandom

Michelle remains close to her sister Petra, who contacts her through a handy while organizing the Battle of the Bards. Michelle jokingly describes her distinctive performance style as “rock” music—a term the Beandom is not yet prepared to appreciate properly.

Restoration

By the coronation of Grimblewaith and Wren, the Merriwether family has been restored to normal human form, including Michelle and her father. Her time as Miss Marble nevertheless remains an important part of Rod Squad history and proof that Michelle can turn even badly worded magic into an opportunity to protect others.

Chronicler’s note: Michelle did not choose to become a living statue. She did choose the name Miss Marble, which may be the more revealing act of heroism.
