CHARACTERS OF THE PENULTIMATE DAWN · BOOK THREE SPOILERS
Carnon
Captain of the Vigilant · Watcher · Rival Vessel · Bearer of the Light
Fifty Years of Watching
Carnon leads the Vigilant, the Remainder faction dedicated to watching the mountains and preparing signal systems for Azil’s return. By the time Azil reappears, Carnon has spent decades serving an expectation that has become larger than the man himself.
Faith and Friction
Carnon’s devotion does not make him automatically obedient to Azil. He questions decisions he sees as secretive or dangerous and becomes a focal point for people who believe the vessel must answer to those whose lives are affected by divine power.
The Light Vessel
When Azil misuses the authority entrusted to him, the three Aspects of Light leave him and choose Carnon. He becomes the new Light vessel, bearing Scarlet, Golden, and Azure together and entering the final struggle as a genuine rival claimant to Rahim’s mantle.
A Brief and Fatal Mantle
Carnon’s time as vessel is short. He stands against the Bone King with Kaval’s Dark vessel but is struck down. His death allows the Light Aspects to return to Azil, completing a cycle of failure, judgment, repentance, and renewed trust.
