PLACES OF THE THIRST

Kaval’s Coliseum

An old underground arena becomes the chamber where Kaval’s borrowed power, Sven’s control, and Sarhah’s loyalty collide.

Major Book Two spoilers: this location is central to Kaval’s condition after the events of The Hunger.

An Arena Below

Within the underground world associated with Emerald Keep, Sven’s people confine Kaval in what appears to have once been an arena. The floor is oblong, tiered benches rise around it, and observation areas allow Sven and others to watch from a safer distance.

Kaval Uncontrolled

Kaval’s condition has become dangerously unstable. He glows with intense Azure power, strikes at threats no one else can see, and releases energy strong enough to damage the chamber itself. The arena functions as containment because ordinary quarters could not safely hold him.

Sarhah Enters

Sarhah refuses to remain merely an observer. Convinced that Kaval’s suffering is tied to the power he took from her while curing her Mal condition, she descends into the arena and tries to reach the person beneath the magical crisis.

A Prison & a Test

The Coliseum becomes more than a cell. It tests Sven’s claim to authority, Azil’s ability to act under constraint, Sarhah’s willingness to risk herself for Kaval, and Kaval’s remaining capacity to choose while overwhelmed by powers he never fully understood.

Escape

The confrontation ultimately turns the arena into a battlefield. Collapsing passages, Sven’s pursuit, and the desperate attempt to get both Sarhah and Kaval out make the Coliseum one of the defining transitional locations between the old hidden Remnant and the larger revelations that follow.
