THE THREE GREAT CLANS
Clan Scarlatti
Gift: Sight · Crest: Rose & Flame · Court of Splendor
From Service Order to Noble House
The oldest records suggest that the Clans began as religious orders organized to place personal gifts in the service of others. Clan Scarlatti grew from the tradition associated with sight: perception, strategy, anticipation, and magical seeing. By the Penultimate Age, that calling has become a hereditary political identity.
Scarlatti Culture
Scarlatti society prizes presentation, wealth, courtly sophistication, and social rank. Its crest—a rose surrounded by curling flames—appears on invitations, banners, clothing, and the architecture of the Keep. The Grand Feast of Rahim displays the Clan at its most dazzling and most vulnerable.
Sight and Scarlet Sustenance
Scarlet Sustenance supports feats of sight: viewing distant events, enhancing perception, and—with sufficient skill—glimpsing beyond the present. This magical association is older than the later nobility and reflects the Clan’s forgotten relationship to the Scarlet Aspect.
The Fall of the Old Order
Political rivalry with Azura and Dorian, class inequality, and the violence surrounding the Scarlatti feast help trigger the crisis of The Hunger. The Clan’s downfall becomes one of the first signs that the supposedly permanent structure of the Realm is about to break apart.
