CHESS QUEST ENCYCLOPEDIA · PLACES & REALMS
Realms, Roads & Other Places
Strongholds, hidden roads, impossible rooms, and worlds beyond Earth
Chess Quest begins in an ordinary modern world and steadily reveals a geography much larger than any map: secret knightly headquarters, moving labyrinths, ancient Homelands, portal routes, realms between worlds, and the center of creation itself.
OPEN · 9 PLACES INDEXED
Six dedicated place profiles join three established historical location entries. More Earth gateways, Corridor rooms, training sites, and medieval locations will be added in later batches.
Knightly Strongholds & Homelands
Paladin Sanctuary
The white-stone headquarters of the Paladin branch: refuge, archive, training center, portal hub, and one of the principal targets of the final Gray campaign.
Nemesis Stronghold
The dark branch’s fortress, prison, training center, and seat of a hierarchy built around rank, coercion, and the powers of chaos.
The First Homeland
The original shared fortress of Palad, Nemes, and Temperance, buried beneath desert sands and later restored with its ancient Vanguard.
The Corridor of Keys
The second Homeland: a spatially unstable maze of keys, hubs, prisons, guardians, living-chess arenas, and eventually the Gray Knight’s fortress.
Realms & Roads Between Worlds
Middlespace
A white intermediary realm linking separate worlds, saturated with order energy and responsive to thought.
Darkespace
The chaos-saturated counterpart to Middlespace and the home of the Umbratum.
Centerspace
The center of the worlds, inhabited by powerful custodians who understand Seed Stones, creation energy, and the Sovereign’s Song.
The Dying World
A collapsing world whose released order and chaos energy becomes the only fast way to recharge the exhausted Sovereign Stones.
Shared Cosmology
Middlespace and Darkespace also appear in the Canticle Chronicles encyclopedia. The Chess Quest profiles preserve their series-specific evidence while cross-linking those existing entries rather than replacing them.
Historic Places
Camelot & the Old Paladin Order
The medieval destination where Sir George says the Paladin Order still performs the formal ceremony that exchanges a completed pawn for a knight.
Earth Gateways & Hidden Routes
Earth itself contains concealed access points that make the supernatural geography possible: Sanctuary portals, safe houses, locations below the wandering Corridor, and routes that open into the Middlespace. Later batches will index these gateways separately where the books provide enough stable detail.
Places Still to Be Indexed
- The Gateway Arch & Earth portal routes — modern gateways into the larger world-road system
- The Finland training cave — the hidden site reached after portal travel to Sweden and a boat journey into the north
- The Constellation Hub — a Corridor room where glowing orbs form star patterns that redirect travelers through the maze
- George’s medieval town, church & catacombs — the setting of his final pawn quest; the town itself remains unnamed in the surviving prequel
- Additional Corridor chambers — puzzle rooms, arenas, prisons, and hubs whose geography deserves focused treatment
